Research
We would like to cooperate with those doing research and working in the field of applied science to create effective treatment options within the health services, and better childhood conditions for children and youth.
Deborah Borgen has built a system that provides tools for people to use in their lives – for self-management, self-help and mastery. The philosophy and techniques are registered under the trademark DB-System®. This is a scientifically-documented system, and the Foundation builds upon this philosophy and the researched work that has already been done.

Published articles on DB-System®.
There have been several research projects carried out on the basic course in DB-System®.
In two of these, measurements of brain activity with EEG were used to objectively evaluate any changes in the brain. Psychological surveys were also used to explore experienced change and how these correlated with physical changes in the brain.
The research was conducted by Dr. Svetla Velikova M.D. Ph.D. who is a globally recognized EEG scientist. Both publications are done in collaboration with Associate professor Bente Nordtug at Nord University in Norway.

Guided imagery and visualization techniques are widely used in modern cognitive therapy. Meditation has also become increasingly common in therapeutic approaches.
This study was the first to examine the effects of self-guided positive imagery training and a home-based program using Self-guided Imagery in Meditation (SIM).
Some of the main conclusions are that the Basic Course in DB-System® can promote psychological well-being, strengthen the ability to self-regulate, and help prevent depression.

In this study, the researchers examined whether the Basic Course in DB-System®, in addition to having an effect on emotional well-being, also has an effect on cognitive functions.
Tests were conducted to assess, among other things, memory functions, cognitive flexibility, and social understanding.
The research confirms the findings from the first study on emotional well-being. It also shows that the brain undergoes functional changes that lead to improvements in cognitive functions.
Improving emotional well-being and cognitive functions is beneficial for healthy people who study, work, or attend school. The training can therefore also be a useful tool for personal development in general.
The article also discusses whether the training may have a positive effect in the treatment of mental disorders and brain disorders.

A good relationship between a healthcare professional and a patient has a significant impact on the effectiveness of treatment.
The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and describe healthcare professionals’ experiences of managing countertransference using Self-guided Imagery in Meditation (SIM) from the DB-System® program.
Participants in the study reported becoming better able to manage personal vulnerability, set clearer boundaries, and practice self-care. This helped them build better relationships with their patients.
One of the main conclusions was that healthcare professionals became better at managing countertransference. This refers to how a healthcare professional’s own unresolved inner conflicts can affect the relationship with a patient, which in turn can influence the effectiveness of treatment.
